Thoughts: This was a pickup from the library that I chose on a whim because the cover caught my eye and I wanted a lighthearted shoujo comic to read. While this isn't ground breaking, it delivered exactly what I wanted it to, which was low stakes shoujo manga hijinks.
How I Met My Soulmate is centred around Yuuki, a small town girl who moved to Tokyo for college to become a magazine editor and wants to get more out of her new life in the big city. On a whim, she goes to a club with her friend, where she meets Iori, who makes an uncomfortable first impression because of his attitude. Once they start talking more, she realizes he's partially acting strange because he's wasted, and he realises she's a kindhearted person for putting up with him, down to helping him after he pukes. She confides to him that one of her goals is to find her soulmate, which sets up the framing we get from the title.
That's a fairly surface level summary of the first few chapters because the pace really picks up and we get to meet her childhood crush, see a love triangle form, see relationships get established pretty quickly, and delve into Yuuki, Iori, and their friends and family's back stories. While there's nothing the manga does that's particularly special, it doesn't do anything badly either (except some of the backgrounds where it's very obviously Clip Studio Paint assets lol). Ensemble cast romance comics can be a slog if you're not into the side characters that the manga sometimes focuses on, but I found everyone here likeable, even the characters that made an iffy first impression. Everyone here is a college aged adult and acts like it, which is a plus. I finished the first volume really quickly and found the available chapters as soon as I could. This is an easy read if you're in the mood for something fun and carefree.
